Sarah M.D. Luth and Gregory Lars Gunnerson Elected Members of McKee, Voorhees & Sease, PLCJanuary 4, 2024

MVS is proud to announce that Sarah M.D. Luth and Gregory Lars Gunnerson have been elected members of McKee, Voorhees & Sease, PLC.

Sarah’s practice focuses on all stages of intellectual property protection for complex chemical and biological technologies, including patent prosecution, strategic patent portfolio and brand development, and the protection of IP assets through privacy, data rights, and cybersecurity compliance. With patent prosecution experience in over 20 countries, Sarah leverages her knowledge of a wide array of intellectual property issues to assist clients in obtaining comprehensive patent protection while implementing data protection through technology design to mitigate current and future risk to IP assets. Sarah is the Co-Chair of the Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice Group.

Before joining McKee, Voorhees & Sease, Sarah worked for the University of Iowa’s Technology Transfer Office, the University of Iowa Research Foundation (UIRF), where she conducted market and legal analyses of emerging technologies and assisted biotech startups. Sarah is a registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. She is also a certified privacy professional through the International Association of Privacy Professionals (CIPP/US). Sarah is a member of the Downtown Des Moines Chamber Board of Directors, Technology Association of Iowa (TAI) Public Policy Committee, Iowa Intellectual Property Association (IIPLA) Board of Directors and Secretary, Catholic Charities Diocese of Des Moines Board of Directors, FemCity, Iowa State Bar Association and AUTM.

Lars is a patent attorney with a technical background in Aerospace Engineering. Much of Lars’ practice focuses on drafting, prosecuting, and enforcing mechanical, electrical, and design patents. Before coming to MVS, Lars gained valuable experience at the USPTO drafting Office actions as a Summer Extern in USPTO Art Unit 2837, which relates to musical technologies and inductors.

Lars joined MVS after graduating magna cum laude from the Mitchell Hamline School of Law. While completing his law degree, Lars was awarded Mitchell Hamline’s Patent Law Certificate; served as a Notes & Comments Editor for Cybaris®, an Intellectual Property Law Review; conducted research for Professor R. Carl Moy; was elected Vice President of Mitchell Hamline’s Student Intellectual Property Law Association; and prosecuted patent applications as a certified Student Attorney through Mitchell Hamline’s Intellectual Property Law Clinic. Lars is a member of the Iowa Intellectual Property Association (IIPLA) Board of Directors, LegalCORPS: Inventor Assistance Program, Iowa State Bar Association, AUTM, Minnesota Intellectual Property Law Association, American Intellectual Property Law Association, and American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
