Heidi S. Nebel Presenting at the Center for Sorghum Improvement SeminarApril 12, 2021 Heidi S. Nebel, Managing Partner and Chair, MVS Chemical and Biotechnology Practice Group is presenting at the Center for Sorghum Improvement Seminar on April 13, 2021. The presentation titled “The Options Available for Protecting Intellectual Property Rights for Plants” will review different forms of Intellectual Property protection available for plants and plant varieties. Heidi will discuss the framework for an overall IP strategy to consider for this in Agricultural Research and Development. She will also consider smaller tier crops and considerations for building partnerships in the public-private space. Finally, Heidi will review International issues, the recent 2018 Farm Bill enactments as well as trademarks, and bag tag language considerations. Heidi has been an IP attorney for over 25 years, obtaining patents and designing IP strategy in the areas of agricultural biotechnology, plants, and animals. Her practice includes representation of more than 40 different universities and research foundations across the country, as well as many Agribusiness companies. Heidi serves on the AUTM Board of Directors and is a member of the Plant Special Interest Group. She is currently serving a second term on the USDA PVP (Plant Variety Protection) Advisory Board having been appointed by the United States Secretary of Agriculture. In addition, Heidi has presented at various SIPA (Seed Innovation & Protection Alliance) events. She joined the firm in 1991 and serves on the firm’s management committee. She manages several of the firm’s largest clients and guides client teams to focus on overall business strategies around a solid intellectual property foundation. Heidi also enjoys being an advocate of biotechnology, speaking around the country on important issues in the field. ← Return to News & Events
