MVS Celebrates National STEM DayNovember 9, 2021 McKee, Voorhees & Sease, PLC is proud to support National STEM Day on November 8, 2021. This day inspires school age children to explore and pursue their interests in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Why is STEM so important, now more than ever before? STEM is all around us and shapes our everyday experiences. Of the U.S. Labor Department’s predicted 10 fastest growing occupations, nearly all of them are STEM careers. Therefore, an interest in STEM early on can lead to success later on in life. STEM occupations account for nearly 7% of all U.S. occupations and STEM workers play an important role in America’s innovative capacity and global competitiveness. They are our engineers, medical scientists, sociologists, informational security analysts and intellectual property attorneys. Despite making up nearly half of the U.S. workforce, women are still vastly underrepresented in the STEM workforce. However, women have made gains from 8% of STEM workers in 1970 to 27% in 2019. But men still dominate the field making up 52% of all U.S. workers but 73% of all STEM workers. At MVS, over one-third of our attorneys are women, all with STEM related degrees. We must close the gender gap that exists in STEM related-careers. Building interest in young women is critical to their future earning potential. MVS is committed to working to help close this gap through our advocating and support of STEM related programs at schools and other institutions and MVS is dedicated to advancing leadership for women in these areas. All of the attorneys in the firm have an extensive STEM backgrounds which is critical to providing our clients with exceptional intellectual property counsel and protection. ← Return to News & Events
